If you’re a fan of “The Sound of Music” this tour is very enjoyable and a lot of fun. We actually got to see quite a few sights where the movie was filmed, it was definitely worthwhile.

We got picked up by the bus from our hostel, which was very convenient.

The tour guide talked over the speaker the whole way, about the movie and little tidbits about the filming of it.

He was very good and also a bit humerous, which just

      adds to the fun.

We drove along the river and saw the Von Trapp house, which backs onto the river.

This house was only used for the back of it - the inside was not actually used in the movie.

We saw the famous gazebo where the “I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen” scene took place.

We were not allowed to go inside it - the tour guide informed us that too many tourists were hurt trying to leap from bench to bench ...

      • like in the movie! Next, we saw the church where Maria and Captain Von Trapp were married but were not allowed to go inside there either - only because we were on a bit of a schedule.

We drove through the countryside to other various places that were in the movie - even the road where Captain Von Trapp saw his children dressed in the curtains and playing in the trees.

The tour was a few hours long - it was a

lot of driving but since we learned interesting things the whole way, it was very good.

We even saw the place where the very last scene of the movie was filmed - when the whole Von Trapp family is walking over the mountains to neutral Switzerland.

Funnily enough, the guide told us that on the other side of the mountain was actually Germany, so they would have been walking straight to the Nazis!

It was a really fun tour and also very beautiful, since Salzburg is quite lovely.
