  • Having used the Google docs web application for several years now, I am beginning to see its amazing convenience as I find more and more ways to compile things online and then have them at my fingertips and at the fingertips of everyone that uses them instead of sitting on paper somewhere or in a file left on a computer at work or one at home, always the one in the wrong place for the occasion

Having used the Google docs web application for several years now, I am beginning to see its amazing convenience as I find more and more ways to compile things online and then have them at my fingertips and at the fingertips of everyone that uses them instead of sitting on paper somewhere or in a file left on a computer at work or one at home, always the one in the wrong place for the occasion. I’ve rarely used anything outside of the document feature, but have used the spreadsheet for a couple of budgets for various things and the presentation feature

once or twice for presentations at work and elsewhere.

Though I have my misgivings about cloud computing and about copyright issues when it comes to having certain things on Google docs rather than in my sole possession, so far I can’t really think of much that I would really be fighting for the copyright of that I wrote. As soon as I publish the next great American novel, I will start worrying about those sorts of things. But for now, the convenience of having documents like directories or schedules, etc., available to me anywhere and anytime I have internet access is rather ...

      • exciting.

I’ve used the service with great success for directories that are managed and available for several people to edit. This way, when any one of us gets a new contact number or hears of someone on the list moving, we can quickly edit it and everyone will be automatically up to date. The same goes for a schedule that is shared (of course we could use Google calendar for that, but one thing at a time!) so that anyone can edit it as changes are made and all of us will be up to date and not have to go to

the trouble of going back and editing each of our calendars separately.

The obvious downsides are the inability to access the work without internet access, but of course as long as you plan ahead and make sure to have a locally available copy of whatever you might be working with, you really needn’t worry at all. With Google’s constant endeavors to add needed features and respond quickly to user demands and wants, right now they appear to have a great thing going. Particularly since the service is available free of charge, it is quite hard to find many faults with it at this point!

Google Documents, when will there be a workflow process to handle document reviews and approvals?
