  • These extra hours are aimed to give convenience to the sleeping passengers, by not running the train too fast to avoid unnecessary vibration
  • I think that it will be better if the ticket examination and immigration in Malaysia side are carried out in KL Sentral Station prior to the departure
  • If you do not want to be disturbed during your rest time, you may consider taking the day train or bus service instead

Two years ago, I planned to visit Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Singapore with my family. I then learned few transportation modes connecting the two cities, and finally decided to choose train service named Senandung Malam. The website of Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) in which there was information about Senandung Malam, was very impressive. I could purchase the tickets online and even choose the coach and seat numbers with ease. It was very convenient.

      Senandung

Malam is a night train, which needs 2 hours and ten minutes longer for the journey from KL to Singapore compared with the day train. These extra hours are aimed to give convenience to the sleeping passengers, by not running the train too fast to avoid unnecessary vibration.

But do not expect that you can sleep well without being disturbed. Just before midnight two officers examine your tickets. In my case, other officers came ...

      • in and this time they examined our passports in early hours. Having crossed the strait (which is the border between Malaysia and Singapore), the train stopped at Woodlands, Singapore. All heavy-eyed passengers were urged to alight from the train with their luggage for immigration and custom clearance. This took place at about 5 a.m. Some passengers came back to the train to continue traveling to Tanjong Pagar Railway Station in Singapore.

        I think that

it will be better if the ticket examination and immigration in Malaysia side are carried out in KL Sentral Station prior to the departure. And perhaps the train can be rescheduled to arrive at Woodlands at 6 a.m. to let the passengers have enough time to sleep, and be fresh when arrive in Singapore. If you do not want to be disturbed during your rest time, you may consider taking the day train or bus service instead.
