The Virginian: Echo of Another Day is the 26th episode of season 1 for this NBC color western.

Bradford Dillman guest stars as Sam Harder who returns to Medicine Bow after 5 years in prison. He and Bleeck have a score to settle. Trampas jumps in to assist, beginning by getting the Viriginian to hire him as a

ranch hand. After a government agent named George Johnson (Edward Asner) shows up, the Virginian has a neat little face off with Harder, not about him, but about Trampas.

Bleeck is played by suitably by John Dehner, who has great strength in playing these kind of characters.

For me, the best part of The Virginian: Echo of Another Day are ...

      • the showdowns between Harder and the Virginian (James Drury). There are a few of these, with the Virginian determined to make sure Trampas doesn’t make a mistake that ends up hurting him in the long run. He’s very direct with Harder and I find that fascinating. It’s clear that there is a strong bond between the
Virginian and Trampas, and I liked seeing that level of friendship between them.

Early in the show, Star Trek’s Grace Lee Whitney as a small part, and I enjoyed seeing her as well.

All in all, there was some good action and drama to this episode. I wouldn’t call it a favorite, but those scenes with Dillman and Drury were highlights.
