It’s unusual to have a western whose hero is also a lawyer, especially from Harvard, but that’s what Brisco is and we are reminded of it in The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.: Brisco for the Defense. Though he hasn’t tried a case in 5 years, he’s called into service by his friend,

Dr. Matt Carter (Edward Blatchford), who is accused of murdering a town’s leader.

Socrates Poole (Christian Clemenson) also shows up to help Brisco, which leads to a funny scene in court when both men object at the same time. It’s delightful harmony of the laughter kind.

Carol Huston plays the strong-willed Cassie Crow, the widow ...

      • who is far from grief stricken. As it turns out, she’s having an affair with Carter.

I continue to enjoy this musical score that adds so much to the story. The score is by the fantastically talented Randy Edelman. One of the reasons I enjoy the sweeping sounds of this theme is

that it is very similar to the score Edelman did for the Patrick Swayze movie, Tall Tale. The similarities are very easy to make. I recognize the familiar chords.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and seeing Brisco utilizing his educational talents as a lawyer. It’s a kick, and it works in this story.
