Have Gun - Will Travel: Gun Shy is episode 29 of the first season of this Richard Boone series about a gunfighter named Paladin. In it, Kam Tong gets a bit more action as Hey Boy since the story revolves around a chess set made from jade that belongs to his uncle. The set has been stolen, so Hey

Boy gives the only remaining piece to Paladin as a gift because he knows how much Paladin enjoys chess.

Paladin decides to go after the thieves and his search takes him to a boarding house run by Ma Warren, played with charm instead of her normal gruffness by Jeanette Nolan.

Lisa Gaye plays the pretty and eager to be married Nancy Warren with ...

      • Corey Allen as the object of her affections, Chuck Anderson. He needs a nudge towards the altar, which is exactly what Nancy hopes Paladin will provide. It’s really a cute side piece to this overall story.

Young Stephen Wootton plays Jed Warren, with Hank Patterson as Pete Gilson and the wonderful Dan Blocker as bad guy Joe. Blocker played a

variety of good and bad guys before Bonanza, but once you’ve seen him as Hoss Cartwright, it’s near impossible to think of him in any other way. He was quite good here, though.

The story has some doubtful sequences, but it was entertaining, and the final scene with Hey Boy checkmating Paladin is classic. It makes for a fun show.
