  • The only shade available was called Tuxedo Plum, and at just under $30, I definitely took a closer look
  • The salesperson said that this product can also be used all over your face for an all-over glow, but when I tried this, it didn’t look so natural on my-given my skin tone being yellow, I think that I need a different shade for all over
  • One thing I noticed right away was that, for my skin tone at least, I only needed to use a tiny bit, or it looked too bright
  • I would recommend Clinique Shimmering Stripes Powder Blusher, but only when used very lightly, or it is too bright

Always a big fan of all Clinique makeup and skin care products, I recently picked up an item that is new to me, when I was shopping for my usual cleanser at the Clinique counter at my local department store. I rarely buy things on impulse, but this was one of those rare times when I saw a product that looked so good that I had to try it out. I have a love-hate relationship with blushes and bronzers, because I have difficulty finding a shade or texture that is natural-looking. I have gone through dozens of brands and products over the years, and have found a few good ones, but this is probably why I am always looking at blushers wherever I go. This time, I spotted a powder blush with four different stripes of

colour, called Clinique Shimmering Stripes Powder Blusher, and it caught my eye because the four shades were not orange or brown or yellow tones, but more like pink, plum and rose tones. The only shade available was called Tuxedo Plum, and at just under $30, I definitely took a closer look. The salesperson said that the shades were meant to be worn together for a glow, which she claimed was sheer, and that you could also use them separately for highlighting or contouring. She also told me that it was long-wearing, but she had me at ‘sheer,’ because I am always looking for natural, and sheer is usually a good bet. I bought it and took it home.

Now, I am not usually a big pink or plum shade kind of girl, because my natural skin tone ...

      • is more yellow based. But these colours looked great on my hand when I tried it at the store, and I was ready for a change. I got home and did a bit of experimenting. I was a bit concerned that it would be too much shimmer, so I tried just a bit of powder at first on my blush brush. I tried to get all four shades evenly distributed on the brush, and I swept in over my cheek bones. The salesperson said that this product can also be used all over your face for an all-over glow, but when I tried this, it didn’t look so natural on my-given my skin tone being yellow, I think that I need a different shade for all over. However, it went on my cheekbones nicely, and did
in fact have a sheer shimmer but no sparkles. One thing I noticed right away was that, for my skin tone at least, I only needed to use a tiny bit, or it looked too bright. It does go on my skin nicely and evenly, and it does last all day long. Since then, I have tried using the lightest shade alone all over my face, and this is really the only way that I would use it in this manner. The colour is sheer, long-lasting, and is natural if used lightly.

I would recommend Clinique Shimmering Stripes Powder Blusher, but only when used very lightly, or it is too bright. People with different skin tones than me may see it differently, though. As with all Clinique products, it is a high-quality, long-wearing blush and feels and looks great on.
