From first appearances, a box of Marlboro Mediums looks very similar to Marlboro’s trade mark flavor, Reds. Unfortunately, that’s where the similarities end because unlike Reds, Marlboro Mediums are horrible cigarettes.

Lacking the classic flavor of full flavored Marlboro reds, Mediums were dry. When I say dry, I mean it in the sense that it eventually starts cutting up my throat and leaving a strong, disgusting chemical aftertaste that had me spitting after every few drags

just to get it out of my mouth. I later learned that the reason why Mediums tasted so disgusting was because the tobacco used inside is actually reconstituted sheet tobacco, where they basically just pick up old, expired tobacco and pounded it back together into a cigarette.

Aside from the taste, there’s another thing that bothers me about Mediums - the smoke! Now I’m a heavy smoker so it would generally be expected that ...

      • the smell of cigarette smoke doesn’t bother me. That is true for the most part, yet the smoke from a Medium is something else that goes beyond whether you are a smoker or not. The smoke is unusually strong and thick, overpowering, chemically scented, and almost like a miasma in nature, this is the kind of cigarette smoke that could probably make other smokers ask you to put out your cigarette.

        Price-wise, Mediums are good.

They’re a bit cheaper than Marlboro’s full flavored lines, however you do get what you paid for as the makings of this cigarette is even cheaper than it’s retail price. For the smoker who remains undaunted, Mediums are more than capable of delivering that sought after buzz when satisfying a craving, but just remember that these cigarettes costs less, but you’ll feel like you’ve paid a bigger price when you encounter the many faults that lie within this smoke.

This article makes it seem like Marlboro mediums are the only cigarettes that use reconstituted sheet tobacco and that assertion is incorrect. Almost every single Marlboro product including the famous Reds also use the stuff. It is not responsible for the authors strong dislike of the product.
