  • Now the problem comes with the labeling, which doesn't match the DVDs at all
  • This was definitely a factory issue because the plastic covering was not damaged at all
  • The box also had signs of wear, but I think that was more on the sellers and poor packaging

Fame aired 16 episodes in its first season on NBC back in 1982. The story is about students at New York City’s School of Performing Arts and stars Debbie Allen, Albert Hague, Erica Gimpel, Valerie Landsburg, Gene Anthony Ray, and several others.

This is a four disk set, two DVDs to each slim pack case. The two cases are housed in a cardboard box which has a nice color photo on the front and the back.

Now the problem comes with the labeling, which

doesn’t match the DVDs at all. The show listing that is printed is part of the case cover, making it difficult to read. You can remove it, but if you do so, you are removing the artwork as well. Now the printing says shows 1-5 are on disk one, 6-10 on disk two, 11-14 on disk three, and 15-16 on disk four. This scared me to death when I put on the DVD and there were only four shows on ...

      • disk one. Even the DVDs are labeled with this breakdown.

In reality, there are 4 episodes per disk. I was just happy they were all there.

However, the case for disk one had a huge gash down the spine which meant there were slivers of plastic sticking up. It could easily hurt a person’s hand, giving it cuts. This was definitely a factory issue because the plastic covering was not damaged at all. The box also had signs of wear, but

I think that was more on the sellers and poor packaging. The spine damage to the case was an MGM issue.

There were no problems with the DVDs themselves. I was very happy with the quality. It’s just too bad that the case documentation and the quality of the case themselves wasn’t equal to the DVDs. However, no extras except for previews.

For fans of the series, though, even with the ridiculous imperfections, this is a nice addition to the DVD library.
