Spruce Meadows is a large equine facility open to the public and hosts an array of events all year long. The summer months are the busiest, with there being events almost every weekend. The major ones like the Masters and the North American draw huge crowds of people from all over the world.

I love visiting Spruce Meadows even when there are no events on. You can enter for free and enjoy walking around the beautiful grounds (dogs are welcome, even during events).

Visitors are even allowed to take a walk

through the stables to see the horses. I’ve also been to Spruce Meadows during the Masters and although it is an entirely different day out, it’s a lot of fun.

You only pay $10 per car load of people, and since you have to park out in the field, they will pick you up in a golf cart and drive you to the event. Everything is open during the big events, the pubs, restaurants and shops.

There are a few arenas with horse-jumping going on and you don’t even need to purchase ...

      • seats to have a great view. They also have the “Prairie Dogs” performing tricks and jumps as well.

We’ve taken our 2-year old there a few times and even though she won’t sit and watch the horses for too long there are so many other things going on that everyone has fun. For the kids, there is a huge playground and even a family washroom with a fireplace and comfy chairs to sit with your baby.

I’ve found that it’s best to pack a lunch since the food is pretty expensive and

there is not a lot for toddlers to eat. There is a lot of grassy space to sit and also picnic tables to enjoy your food at.

In the winter, they have a Christmas market which is mostly indoors. The are tons of vendors selling all kinds of things from crafts to food to bowls and jewelry.

There is a huge Christmas light display on every night in the winter - which is just beautiful. I love that you can always go walking through there whenever you want for free since it’s out in the country it’s very peaceful.
