  • This is actually one fault or problem I have in the ending of the episode because after saving the day, there really isn't any conversation or acknowledgement that the fight is over

The Virginian: It Tolls for Thee is from the first season of this western series which had the unique honor of being 90-minutes in length when airing. Overall, it’s not a series I’m that crazy about, but some episodes aren’t too bad.

In It Tolls for Thee, guest star Lee Marvin appears as Martin Kalig, who kidnaps Judge Henry Garth (Lee J.

Cobb), owner of the vast Shiloh Ranch. This happens after Garth and the Virginian (James Drury) have a fight in which the Virginian, as he later states, stops talking to him. This is actually one fault or problem I have in the ending of the episode because after saving the day, there really isn’t any conversation or acknowledgement that the ...

      • fight is over. There’s no dialog. It just ends with them riding for home. I wanted more and for me, that’s a huge negative and oversight.

There’s the usual drama a story like this produces, with Garth and Kalig having some verbal duels while the Virginian and ranch hands, Trampas (Doug McClure) and Steve (Gary Clarke), give chase, hoping to

find Garth and rescue him, which ultimately is what they do.

Guests stars for this episode include Albert Salmi, who is very good at playing villains, and Ron Soble, who is probably best known for his role on The Monroes.

The Virginian: It Tolls for Thee is okay. It’s not one I’d look for, but if nothing else were on, I’d probably leave it on.
