One of the great things about living in Michigan is being surrounded by the great lakes. Over on our side of the state, we have Lake Michigan, which is about 30 minutes from where we live. Sure, there are really only about 3-4 months out of the year that we can enjoy it since the weather here is too cold the rest of the time, but when the weather heats up, Lake Michigan is the place to be.

Most people who aren’t familiar with Michigam don’t realize that we actuall do have very warm and humid summers. It’s not always a snow covered blizzard state. When the temperature hit 95 and it’s uncomfortably humid outside, being near lake michigan is where you want to be because it’s about 10 degrees cooler,

and there is always a refreshing breeze. The beaches here get very busy on hot days.

That’s why we love to camp at Grand Haven State Park. Camping here is much different that what we’re used to in a campground. Many other places we camp have plush grass, large campsites, clubhouses, arcades, activities, and more. When you go to Grand Haven State park, the reason is to be near the beach and the lake, and just to be in Grand Haven.

The campsites are certainly not fancy. In fact, you basically park your rv on cement, like a parking lot. You won’t see any grass or fancy landscaping, you will see cement and beach sand. But that’s okay because when you are in Grand Haven you spend very littl ...

      • e time at your RV anyway.

Grand Haven State park is relatively inexpensive also. You can expect to pay a fraction of what you would pay at a private campground. The park is right on the beach, and also close to the boardwalk, the channel, and all the shops down the road.

If you prefer a more traditional style of camping, Grand Haven has several other parks that or more grassy and/or wooded…but then you have quite a walk ahead of you if you want to go down to the beach. Either that or you will hav eot pack up your can with all your stuff and drive down there, and pay for parking.

We prefer to set up right at the state park. You get basically a parking spot, which is very

close to your neighbor, a picnic table, and that’s about it. They don’t even offer firepits, fires aren’t allowed there. But we prefer to go down to the beach and watch the sunset anyway, or take a night time stroll down to th eboardwak by the channel and watch the boats come in.

The beaches on Lake Michigan are really the best part about living in the state. So, to find a campground right on the beach is priceless. Grand Haven State Park is one of our favorite places to go in the summer.

I would recommed this campground to anyone looking to basically park near the beach for the weekend. Don’t expect anything fancy, but if you’r elookin gto just have a place to stay, Grand Haven State Park is a great find.
