While going to the Quickie Mart, they witness Apu being robbed. When Apu wouldn’t give Homer change to pay for the 911 call, they decide to go the local farmer’s market outside. Lisa convinces them to eat more vegetarian meals, so they upgrade vegetables from a side dish to a main course.

Unfortunately, everyone except for Lisa gets sick for the food. Because their bodies are so used to processed food, their bodies

      cannot digest the vegetables.

Lisa is okay, because she is a vegetarian. While they are recovering, Lisa sings them lullabies to make them feel better.

The next day, they are back to normal and Bart resolves to only eating food that once had a soul. They see a Krusty Klown commercial advertising “Krusty’s Lil’ Starmaker”, a singing competition for kids.

Lisa decides to enter, but when she sees singers with more talent,

      • she is worried. Homer decides to write her a crowd-pleasing song to make up for her lack of vocal range and is admitted into the competition.

This begins Homer’s reign as Lisa’s singing coach; though he looks out for her, he bullies everyone else on the show in order to do so. Lisa eventually fires Homer, so he decides to work for one of her competitors, Cameron.

When Lisa begins to miss Homer,

she finds a way to make it up to him. She writes a song to apologize, and Homer accepts.

She concedes that it was okay to work for her competitor, but Homer actually sabotaged the singer, and Lisa ends up winning. This is another sweet episode from the Simpsons.

Homer may be an absent father at times, but this episode highlighted his sweet side. It was also a great parody of another Fox show, American Idol.
