  • The Maybelline Mineral Power Illuminator was definitely not the right product for this task, although it does have a redeeming quality that is suited for another task The consistency of the illuminator itself is not bad
  • Basically, I like using it to add a little bit of a glow to whatever color I might be wearing on my eyes and to keep the eye shadow from fading or smearing over time

This is one of those products that I tried out in the store before purchasing because I wanted to make sure that it was the right match for me. So often with highlighters such as the Maybelline Mineral Power Illuminator, the manufacturer puts too much glitter into the product. Instead of illuminating with a subtle, more natural glow, the product gives you a really tacky look that comes off as more fake than it does natural. It’s kind of reminiscent of those roll-on bottles of glitter that used to be so popular in elementary school and junior high. Most adult women do not want that look anymore, me included. I was looking

for an illuminator that would highlight my cheekbones just the slightest bit and would be a complement to whatever shade of blush I may choose to wear on any given day. The Maybelline Mineral Power Illuminator was definitely not the right product for this task, although it does have a redeeming quality that is suited for another task

The consistency of the illuminator itself is not bad. It isn’t too glittery and it isn’t one of those illuminators that just rests on top of the skin rather than blending onto the level of your foundation. However, it still does not look natural. It just comes off way too shiny to appear natural. It ...

      • emphasizes cheek bones way too much. I guess what I don’t like about it is that it gives you an oily look rather than highlighting the features you want to highlight. I already have to deal with oily skin. I do not want my highlighter to make my cheeks look even more oily. I want it to be more like a bronzer that gives me a glow.

However, all hope is not lost for this product. I do not like to use it on my cheeks as an illuminator, but it is a great product to use over your eye shadow. It really helps to act as a kind of setting powder. Basically,

I like using it to add a little bit of a glow to whatever color I might be wearing on my eyes and to keep the eye shadow from fading or smearing over time. It is better at doing this than it is at what Maybelline intends for it to do. I probably will not buy this product again simply because I do not need another makeup product that fails at its intended purpose and I have enough products that help with my eye shadows. If you are looking for an actual highlighter, I’d say not to try this product, but if you need a nice complement for your eye shadow, I’d pick this up.
