When Maxis released the first “Life Simulation” game The Sims in the year 2000 or so, it became so popular among many people. It was just not easy to understand why it became that popular while the characters in the game were not doing something really extraordinary most of the time. Since it is a life simulation, the game was based on reality most of the time and the people you took control of are only doing the daily things you already do.

Then, they released many expansion packs. After having many expansion packs for this game, nearly everybody understood how The Sims game will evaluate. However, it was for sure that the game was going to need something really new to compete with the other games which uses the newer technologies.

As you already know, the expansion packs can improve the game but still it has a limit. To make

a real, very major difference on a game, you need to improve or renew the engine of the game and I think this is what they did in The Sims 2.

The first thing you will notice in this game is, the graphics are more detailed now. Creating new characters and families is still possible, and there are so much details to care now. This makes it possible to create a character which looks nearly exactly how you want it to look. However, it will also take more time to complete the character builds. The animations look more detailed in the game and it makes it feel more lively. However, there is still too many similarities with the older version and it is for sure that they restricted many features in order to sell those with expansion packs seperately.

The Sims 2 doesn’t only provide better graphics and more details, but it ...

      • also has more realisim in the life simulation. Now, your sims will get old by time and this will be affected by their lifestyles. Just like in real life.

When you listen to people in real life, they say the secret behind living longer is, having a healthy and happy life. If you have a very exhausting life style, then it will also affect your passion to live, and so even the length of your life. The same thing applies in The Sims 2. IF you achieve the goals of your sims, they will be much happier and this happinnes will make sure that you will have a more healthy elderness when you get that old.

The best thing I liked about The Sims 2 is, even the babies can grow up by time, go to school, get adult and even marry. This makes it possible to create a family tree if

you play with the correct characters for a long time. I think this is a fairly good idea. Also, your main characters will get old by time. When they get really old, they will have grey hair, wrinkled skin and even a slight hunchback. In The Sims 2, the sims will have memories also.

It doesn’t effect the game very much but still it exists. In the other hand, the genetics system makes the children more related to their parents.

I think, The Sims 2 is a game to play and do lots of new things. OK, most of the things you do in the game is a part of your real life routine, but there is still much that you can do here. Being a world famous specialist in your job, having children and so on… Maybe you should give those things a try in the game before doing them in real :)
