The Virginian: The Big Deal, episode 4 of season 1, brings back Pippa Scott as Molly Wood, the publisher of the town newspaper. She’s a recurring character on this western. I haven’t checked to see how far she goes, but she’s in several episodes from the first season and is the object of the

      Virginian’s affection.

Givinig the Virginian (James Drury) some competition is Ricardo Montalban who guest stars as Enrique, a man as strong as stubborn as Judge Garth is. Apparently, Enrique’s father had been leasing land to Garth and Enrique was coming to see it and to decide if he wants to continue leasing it or selling it.

      • The rub is that he doesn’t know how valuable the land is, and Garth isn’t telling him.

Once again, Betsy is enamored by the handsome newcomer and is taken advantage of. Young and pretty, that’s pretty much average for the character. Roberta Shore is lovely as the teenage girl, although in reality Shore was

        in her early twenties.

Enrique learns from Betsy that the land is needed to bring the cattle down during the winter months. It’s fun to see the foreigner get the upper hand on Garth, who I just don’t like. Ultimately, though, it leads to near disaster and once again, I just don’t agree with anything Garth does.
