Sainthood is Tegan and Sara’s most recently released studio album. As a fun fact, it features the first two tracks ever that both twins collaborated to write, namely “Hell” and “The Cure.” The album is a throwback to their earlier work, sort of like a mix between So Jealous and The Con. Fans of either will find tracks they truly enjoy, and the rest will be

      at worst bearable.

The album opens with the frantic yet classic “Arrow,” which has a sort of punk-rock 80s feel. The song has some brilliant lyrics I failed to appreciate until listening very closely. We continue with “Don’t Rush,” which has a feeling completely different from the rest of the album. My personal favorites, “Hell,” “The Cure,” and, “The Ocean,” chime in at number three, six, and ...

      • eleven, respectively.

The album is a nice reminder that the pair still exist and are getting along and collaborating fabulously. My boyfriend’s favorite track, “Alligator,” is about a childhood crush of Sara’s, according to a live recording we heard during which Sara talks about her experiences as a wannabe synchronized swimmer.

Overall, I appreciate the album for what it is. The sound is more polished than it has

been in the past, but that is not a bad thing. It is a fresh outlook and religiously oriented, which can be appreciated by most. It is more secular, too, than previous albums, moving far away from their folk-pop roots. You will not be hearing “Living Room” on this album, but that’s okay.

I love this album. You will too, if you are even a vaguely familiar semi-fan.
