We went to see the new animated “Christmas Carol” movie yesterday. Like all new Disney animations, it is done in 3D; we got the 3D glasses as we bought the tickets, and paid $3 more per ticket because of it.

It was well worth it though: I felt like I was within the

story as I watched the film, and all the numerous flight scenes were simply breathtaking.

As to the movie itself, it follows the original classic very well.

Most of us know the story of Scrooge and his Christmas adventure, so it is hard to surprise us – unless the story or the main character’s portrayal is royally messed up.

This version does not mess anything up, I am happy to report.

Scrooge is perhaps a little too skinny, but it is easy enough to accept or overlook; after all, he is such a penny pincher.

He starts out stern and grumpy, as usual, then gets frightened by ...

ghostly visitations, revisits his past and learns about the present and the future.

The soul of the story and the message Charles Dickens had put in it is well preserved.

Animation and computer effects add beauty to the story – we get to see a lot of Dickensian London, all decorated for Christmas,

and Scrooge’s adventures with the ghosts are done in such a way as in no other rendition of the classic.

The ghosts are rather scary, too.

There was a child at the theater who was frightened, so perhaps younger children are not the best audience for this movie.

But overall, it is a very good adaptation.
