Shop 40 , Seaside Village, Cnr Otto du plessis Drive and Comorant Road, Blaauwberg, South Africa
  • The floor to ceiling glass that runs along the length of the dining area results in one of the best dining views on offer in Cape Town
  • However there are meat, poultry and pasta dishes on offer as well as an interesting looking Teppanyaki menu
  • Crispy, tender with a dip of sweet chilli sauce, amazing
  • I was so impressed with the starters that I decided couldn’t go wrong with the Prawn and Calamari Combo

With Mother Nature having paused to take a breathe before unleashing the next foul tempered storm on us, we decided to make use of the sunshine and took a drive down Blaauwberg way. Having seen what there was to see, hunger started gnawing away at the innards and it was time to find some lunch. The Seaside Village sprung up to the rescue and we soon found ourselves sitting at a table in the Cape Town Fish Market with a spectacular view of Table Mountain. The floor to ceiling glass that runs along the length of the dining area results in one of the best dining views on offer in Cape Town. Having ordered the perfunctory pre meal beer, it was time to study the menu. It caters for all tastes with the focus being on seafood and sushi in particular. However there are

meat, poultry and pasta dishes on offer as well as an interesting looking Teppanyaki menu. The Tempura Prawns caught my eye the for starter. They were without a doubt the best tempura prawns I had ever had. Do yourself a favour and find your nearest CTFM and pop in for the Tempura prawns. Crispy, tender with a dip of sweet chilli sauce, amazing. I was so impressed with the starters that I decided couldn’t go wrong with the Prawn and Calamari Combo. Again I was astounded with the prawns which came dripping in garlic sauce and the calamari was tender and crispy. The portion size was good and well worth every penny. Against my better judgement, I ventured into the land of the greedy and tried the Trio of Mousse. I should have stopped at the coffee course because the dessert really let ...

      • down the rest of the meal. The mousse was more like marsh mellow and definitely not fresh. However I couldn’t let that spoil the meal and I left with fond memories of crispy prawns and a truly fantastic view. Another successful venture for the CTFM franchise and a must for locals to enjoy the fantastic view and well priced menu.

For those of you who are globetrotters, you will be glad to hear that CTFM have opened their first restaurant in London which serves the same menu as the South African franchises. It is located off Oxford Circus in Argyll Street next to the Palladium Theatre, so if you are in the area and get a craving for a “Snoek Parcel “you know where to get one.

Smoking section: Yes Wheelchair access: Yes.

        Personal touches: Warm hand clothes

        provided for prawn covered fingers.

        The Niall Restaurant test:

        1. The chilled beer glass test – Passed, Chilled my bru. Chilled

        2. The Music Test- Passed, The King of sound systems, BOSE complimented the décor and the music choice was good.

        3. The sport watching test – Failed, A 42” Plasma on display but no sport watching facilities.

        4. The Child Friendly test – Passed, It’s just that sort of restaurant.

5 The urinal Test – Passed, A good restaurant is judged on their urinal disinfectant system, the best being the ice block system and the worst being the moth ball system. Got clean toilets with these modern automated disinfectants which take the fun out of the experience.

Result: 4/5 Excellent rating for one of South Africa’s most popular franchise’s.

NB: All visits are done unannounced and all meals are payed for in full by myself.
