Known professionally as Jessica Stevenson until a couple of years ago, Hynes is without doubt one of the finest comic talents to emerge from Britain in recent years. She’s probably best known for her roles in Spaced and The Royle Family.

As dumpy Cheryl in The Royle Family, Hynes proved she wasn’t afraid to

play the comic fool, and did so with gusto.

She’s appeared throughout the series for many years, even after tasting bigger successes elsewhere, so she clearly recognises a good role when she sees one.

Her role in Spaced is her biggest triumpth though.

As Daisy Steiner, the aspiring writer lacking any drive at all,

      • Hynes provided us with a real gem of a comic character.

Complete with quirks and faults, she was completely loveable and pretty identifiable even in the outlandish at times show.

She also co-created and wrote the show with the better known Simon Pegg, and in my opinion deserves as much as fame as he’s

        been graced.

She’s got an eye for good drama too - with her performance in the Doctor Who two parter, Human Nature/Family of Blood showcasing some extra limbs to her talent.

She may not be able to act her way through a highly gritty show, but there’s more to her than just your average comic turn.
