  • We weren't blessed with the best weather and ao it was quite a rough trip
  • All in all it was a good experience but could have been a GREAT experience if they had put the air conditioner to normal levels, were better organised for helping people find their reserved seating and had a wider selection of foods available

In august I went on honeymoon in Sardegna with my husband. We took the SNAV ferry from Civitavecchia, near Rome, to Olbia (north Sardegna). We booked our tickets through the travel agency BluVacanze (www. bluvacanze.

it)and paid a total of 250 euro for the ferry (133,00 going and 117 coming back). Going the ferry left at 22:30 and arrived at 07:00. We weren’t blessed with the best weather and ao it was quite a rough trip.

Although we had 2 seats reserved we couldn’t find them when on the ferry. The numbers weren’t printed on our booking confirmation and no-one on the ferry seemed to know about the seat reservations. Those with

cabins all had the cabin numbers on their tickets.

We ended up in the entertainment lounge where they had live music being played until late, a bar and some seating with coffee tables. People were sleeping anywhere and everywhere either because they hadn’t booked a seat or cabin or because like us could find the seating reserved for them. The seating in the lounge was not uncomfortable but the air conditioning was so high it was impossible to get any sleep and by the time we arrived at Olbia none of us could move properly from being so stiff.

A little ridiculous considering how hot it was in August. The ...

      • return trip was much better. We left Oblia at 13:00 and the weather was fantastic.

So much so in fact that we went up on deck for the main part of the journey back. On the top deck they have deck-chairs and sun loungers that were free to use. We spent the most part sunning ourselves up there and enjoying the last of our holiday.

Bliss. Although the ferry had a snack bar, wine bar and restaurant the choice was limited. I suffer from celiac disease which means I can’t eat anything with gluten in it (pasta, bread…basically anything with grain).

They had pizza and sandwiches but nothing I could

eat except crisps and ice-cream…. not exactly a good lunch or dinner!

The ferry was equiped with TV room, card room, library etc… but all their doors were locked for the whole journey both there and back. We had taken our motorbike with us and it was quick and easy to collect it on arrival in both Olbia and Civitavecchia.

All in all it was a good experience but could have been a GREAT experience if they had put the air conditioner to normal levels, were better organised for helping people find their reserved seating and had a wider selection of foods available. I would travel with SNAV again but I’ll be packing a lunch and blanket next time!
