  • The Autumn House Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry by Sue Ellen Thompson is a poetry book that I enjoyed quite thoroughly
  • This book, I think, is a great poetry book to read through whether you are someone that just likes to read poetry for pleasure or you are someone that is considering giving poetry a try as this book offers several different styles and types of poetry and demonstrates just how many ways there are for a poet to express himself or herself
  • I very much enjoyed reading through this large collection of poems and I would very much recommend this book whether you are a casual reader of poetry or an ardent reader of it

“The Autumn House Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry” by Sue Ellen Thompson is a poetry book that I enjoyed quite thoroughly. This book is really packed with poetry at nearly four hundred and fifty pages! That is a lot of poems to take in and think about! The wonderful thing about a poetry book of this length is because there are so many poems included, there is a good chance that any given person that likes poetry will come across more than just a couple handfuls of poems that he or she finds memorable, thoughtful

      or touching.

As the title states, this book is a collection of contemporary, or modern, poetry that has been written and published within the last fifty or so years, so several of the poems included in this book could be interpreted in a way that is relevant to certain events in American history, like the civil rights movement, America’s move from a more intolerant to tolerant society, the Cold War, to name a few, but also, this book contains poems that explore more traditional concepts, like the various dimensions of love, the qualities in life ...

      • that can lead to happiness and the mysteries of death.

Some of the poets that will be found in this book include: Denise Duhamel, Rita Dove, Stephen Dunn and Wendell Berry.

That is only four of the poets that have poems just waiting to be read - there are actually almost one-hundred different poets included in this book! This allows for a real rich variety of perspectives and styles.

This book, I think, is a great poetry book to read through whether you are someone that just likes to read poetry for pleasure or you

are someone that is considering giving poetry a try as this book offers several different styles and types of poetry and demonstrates just how many ways there are for a poet to express himself or herself.

I very much enjoyed reading through this large collection of poems and I would very much recommend this book whether you are a casual reader of poetry or an ardent reader of it.

Poems range from simplicity to a more abstract nature, but I think there is enough poems that fall within those two categories and in between to entertain most readers.
