Although I am not a tea drinker, I was on the lookout for specific tea stores so that I could purchase some gifts for the tea drinkers in my life. I had looked at several coffee and tea shops and didn’t see any particularly unique items there. A co-worker of mine, who is a big tea drinker, gave me the name of a retailer, The Naked Leaf, which specializes in all things tea, and nothing else. This sounded perfect to me, so I went this weekend.

The Naked Leaf is located in the Kensington area of northwest Calgary, Alberta. It is not a big store from the outside, but as soon as I walked into the store, I was extremely impressed with the variety of items

and teas available to purchase. Not being a tea drinker myself, I did not know all these tea-related items even existed. Of course, there are items that I expected-tea pots, cups, mugs, strainers, and anything else you can think of. Everything is displayed in an impeccably organized, brightly-coloured, neat and tidy manner, on shelves and tables around the store. I loved the layout, and everything looks wonderful-I found myself wanting to buy things that I would never even use. I browsed for quite a while, and the salespeople were very friendly and helpful. I saw types of teas that I had never heard of; this store carries the traditional green, black, and white teas as well as more exotic varieties, such as oolong, blossoming, chai,

      • and herbal teas. When I told one of the salespeople that I was looking for gifts for my family, she right away suggested what turned out to be the perfect gifts.

I absolutely love the items that I ended up buying for my mom and grandma. The salesperson took me over to a section of the store that displayed tea tins that are airtight, reusable, and have the artwork of local artists on the front labels. I am not speaking of patterns and designs, but true artwork. I ended up buy one with a photo of wild horses, and one with a painting of a fall scene, with a small bridge and gorgeous red and orange leaves. There are many tins to choose from, and

this makes the ideal gift for tea lovers. You can fill the tin with whatever variety of tea that you desire, so the price of each tin will vary depending on which tea you purchase, but I left the store with two tins, plus a few other stocking stuffers, and spend less than $50. Another unique feature of this store is that they will also customize a tea tin for customers-you design your own artwork, and they will attach it on a label.

For tea lovers, and those looking for unique gifts, The Naked Leaf is the ideal store. The customer service and merchandise are great, and you will come away with some great gifts for others, or yourself.
