This book, Ham and Pickles First Day of School, is a delightful children’s book written and illustrated by Nicole Rubel in the year 2006. The story is about two guinea pigs named Ham and Pickles.

Ham is the brother and Pickles is the sister.

It is Pickles first day of school and she is very nervous.

She is afraid she is going to be late because her alarm clock won’t go off, she may forget something, or the other kids may laugh at her clothing.

Ham tries to give her advice about school and what she should say to try to make friends, “I’m so glad you don’t have fleas.

” Ham means well, but it doesn’t help ease Pickle’s fears.

Pickles did forget her lunch on the first day ...

of school, but Ham shared his lunch with her.

Ham also waits with her for the bus so she will have someone to sit with.

This book is a great book that deals with first day school jitters and sibling relationships in a comical

      way.

I have taught school before and this would be an excellent book to read to the students on the first day of school.

I would highly recommend this book as it was very entertaining and the author uses vibrant colors and humor throughout the book.
