The best way to describe the movie ‘The Reader’ is a very moving film which tackles emotions and sentiments in a unique way. It is no wonder that there were many actresses who wanted to interpret the main female role such as Nicole Kidman, Juliette Binoche, Marion Cotillard and Naomi Watts. The final choices went to Kate Winslet

after Nicole Kidman had to refuse due to her pregnancy. I can imagine that she wasn’t too happy when she learned that Winslet won the Oscar for this role.

The movie takes us to the post war period in Germany where a very young Michael Berg meets unexpectedly Hanna Schmitz (Winslet) in an alley while he was feeling unwell.

      • Even though there was quite an age gap, they had an affair. Berg’s vision of Hanna changes when he sees her in a court room during the Nazi criminal trails.

It goes without saying that Kate Winslet is simply incredible in her role. There are moments when you hate her and there are moments when you feel sorry for

her. In certain scenes, the make up department did an impressive job to make Winslet look very old. It seems that it took them seven hours to do the finishing touches.

‘The Reader’ is a movie that will make the viewers watching it think about the cruelty of war and the strength and weaknesses of sentiments. Simply a most watch movie!
