  • I think it belongs more to the drama section, though
  • I soon had it memorized and would watch it in my head at boring times, such as in line at the store or at the doctor's office
  • Over time, the movie loses its novelty, but there are always little lines, glances, and other moments I pick up that I had never understood or noticed before

I first watched Ginger Snaps in 2005 due to recommendations on IMDb. It is a movie about two sisters, Ginger and Brigitte, who are going through changes, one symbolic and one quite literally. The plot focuses heavily on sisterhood, growing apart, changing, and love, as well as losing yourself to adolescence.

It is an entertaining movie usually classified in the horror genre. I think

it belongs more to the drama section, though. There are only a few really scary jump-out-of-your-seat moments; the rest is just tension as you watch two young lives gradually slide downhill.

I watched this movie about 20 times in the first month, as it was recorded on my television. I soon had it memorized and would “watch” it in my head at boring times, such as in line at the store or at the doctor’s office. Over time, the movie loses its novelty, but there are always little lines, glances, and other moments I pick up that I had never understood or noticed before. Because of the very small lines, I feel like I am watching a new movie every time. It still retains its familiarity, though,

and I only watch it about twice per year now.

If you are the type to watch movies more than once, I think you will feel comforted knowing that I usually did not watch the entire thing, either. Once the sisterhood goes through its dissolution and the fighting truly begins, I feel so sad I usually give up on seeing it through to the

      end.

I also advise you to look on youtube if you fail to find the song played during the opening credits. I agree: it is amazing.

Ginger Snaps is certainly a must-see movie for any teenager going through changes, or anybody who has lost or is losing a sister. Perhaps in the latter situation, this movie can serve as a warning sign or motivation to mend the relationship.
