  • Another aspect of this episode that I like is that Tarantulas again demonstrates that he has his own agenda, and partnered with Quickstrike, disposes of Megatron by tossing him into the buring lava
  • This is the first episode to fully feature Blackarachnia's new transmetal two form and it is interesting to see how she does not possess the typical weapons
  • The episode is still weak in some ways and could be better, but overall, it is solidly entertaining and definitely one of the season's better episodes

Beast Wars - Master Blaster is one of the season’s most solid episodes. It features a number of entertaining highlights, the most important of which is Megatron once more gaining access to the Ark and removing the spark of his namesake, the Generation One Megatron, and joining it with his own.

The result is a transformation that is very impressive and is showcased in this episode when Optimus takes him on.

The ensuring battle over the boiling lava in the darkened cave with the Ark is the background is quite exciting and quite visually appealing! Another aspect of this episode that I like is that Tarantulas again

demonstrates that he has his own agenda, and partnered with Quickstrike, “disposes” of Megatron by tossing him into the buring lava.

Tarantulas manipulates and uses Quickstrike, who thinks Tarantulas is his partner, and this allows Tarantulas to get Megatron out of the way so that he can gain access to the Ark and initiate a core overload.

Tarantulas clearly intends on destroying both the Autobots and Decepticons, thus erasing the Maximals and Predicons from history, but sadly, this is never explored further.

The writers hint that Tarantulas has origins that are independent from the other transformers, and he clearly wants both factions out of the way, but ...

      • again, this is never explained or expanded upon.

What a missed opportunity! This is the first episode to fully feature Blackarachnia’s new transmetal two form and it is interesting to see how she does not possess the typical weapons.

Her means of disposing of Rampage using these abilities is quite clever! Another thing that I liked about this episode was the solid dialogue, especially on the part of Megatron.

His rise from the lava after being thrown in makes for a very impressive scene and his first words in his new form are quite powerful.

I do not particularly understand how both Megatron and Tarantulas could survive

falling in boiling hot magma and yet Terrosaur and Scorpinok, both of which died at the beginning of season two, could not survive after falling in magma, but in both instances, I suppose the “plot” just called for it to work that way! All in all, this episode offers a fair amount of entertaining action, devious treachery, a new and impressive form for Megatron, enjoyable dialogue and some spotlight on Blackarachnia, who gets a chance to show off her new form some more.

The episode is still weak in some ways and could be better, but overall, it is solidly entertaining and definitely one of the season’s better episodes!
