  • This was a good issue, simple, but effective
  • Even the big sagas are 12 issues, so it should be interesting to see how this turns out
  • I know Superman is suspicious and doesn't trust Zod as far as he can throw him, but you've gotta hide it and be in cognito

The comic opens on Oa, where even the guardians take notice of the appearance of New Krytpon. They fear that they may have to send in a brigade of Green Lanterns but hold off for now.

We then see Kal adapting to his new life quite well. He proves himself to be a capable commander, being strict when necessary but never going too over the top to prove his command.

His skills are put to the test when a group of thought beasts begins a stampede and threatens Kryptonian developments. The soldiers expect him to open

fire, but he instead chooses to utilize their heat vision to herd them away. It works and the creatures are kept alive with no loss to Kryptonians.

Kara makes a surprise appearance, greeting Kal happily and saying that they can be a family again.

Things are put on hold when the Labor Guild takes a group hostage demanding equal rights. Zod orders them executed.

This was a good issue, simple, but effective. The psychic flashbacks of Brainiac and the Phantom Zone were a nice touch.

I was surprised to find out that this mini goes ...

      • on for 15 issues. That’s crazy. I figured it was like a six or seven issue series. Even the big sagas are 12 issues, so it should be interesting to see how this turns out. I wonder if it will tie into Blackest Night at all. Seeing Zod’s army battle a swarm of intergalactic undead would be interesting to see. The reaction of the no nonsense general would also be amusing.

Kal really needs to learn to hide better. While he agreed to work under Zod’s command, he insists on talking trash

behind him and even to his face. I know Superman is suspicious and doesn’t trust Zod as far as he can throw him, but you’ve gotta hide it and be in cognito.

It’s also made clear that Zod has plans for “the enemies of Krypton” whoever they may be. I’m going to assume it’s Earth, but if this were the case I don’t know why they’d need specialized guns. Then again, given the outbreak that occurred, maybe he saw something like this coming and he just wanted a way to kill Kryptonians who defy him.
