My mother suffers from Osteoarthritis, and has tried many medications over the years. Any prescription-strength medications make her ill, and she keeps going back to just taking Aleve, which is effective, but it also is very hard on her stomach. She keeps on trying products she reads about or sees on television or that her friends recommend. Her latest attempt was something available at the drug-store, non-prescription, called Osteo Bi-Flex Advanced with Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and a

‘special ingredient’ called 5-LOXIN, according to the packaging and information brochure. She paid $30 for a 40 day supply, and the pharmacist told my mom that this product is very popular in the US, and has just become available in Canada. He also told her that this doesn’t only relieve joint pain, but it also supposedly helps in building healthy cartilage. I am always skeptical of the many Osteoarthritis medications that she tries, and I always tell her she is spending far too much money and time on this quest, but I also do not know how painful her condition is, so I just wait to hear the results of all of her attempts.

she has seen no discernable difference in her joint pain. While she doesn’t suffer every day, and the pain does come and go, she has still been getting the same number of flare-ups, and the same severity and duration of pain, as before she tried this medication. Her knees are where she feels the pain most often and most severely, and although the first week passed without a major flare-up, she had a very bad episode during
the second week that lasted for a couple of days. Her small aches and pains were constantly there, so she couldn’t see any improvement. She continued to use it for another month, but then she went back to her trusty Aleve.

I am unsure whether Osteo Bi-Flex Advanced works for anyone, but it did not have any positive effects for my mother’s Osteoarthritis pain. I would recommend saving yourself more than ¾ of the price, and just buy Aleve.
