  • Original TV Soundtrack is a soundtrack that I was disappointed in somewhat
  • I think several musical pieces are more deserving to be on this soundtrack than what was ultimately decided on and I would not consider this soundtrack to represent the best of Star Trek, with a few exceptions
  • Yes, that episode has rich and vibrant music, but why not limit the Klingon music to one track and devote the other either to the Romulan music in The Defector or the incredible music composed for The Best of Both Worlds
  • I also really, really enjoyed the orchestra version of the music from The Inner Light

The Best Of Star Trek: 30th Anniversary Special! Original TV Soundtrack is a soundtrack that I was disappointed in somewhat. I think several musical pieces are more deserving to be on this soundtrack than what was ultimately decided on and I would not consider this soundtrack to represent the “best” of Star Trek, with a few exceptions.

First of all, for the section of the soundtrack that is dedicated to the first Star Trek series, all of the music, expect for the intro sequence, is lifted from one episode: The Trouble with

      Tribbles.

Now granted, that episode featured some fine music with comical overtones, but three different tracks? This episode could have been represented just fine with one track of its own.

What about the intense and dramatic used in episodes like “The Doomsday Machine”? That deserved to be on this CD as the music in this episode was used more than a few times in the series and is quite masterfully composed.

As for the section of the CD dedicated to Star Trek: The Next Generation, two tracks dedicated to “Heart of Glory”?

      • Yes, that episode has rich and vibrant music, but why not limit the Klingon music to one track and devote the other either to the Romulan music in “The Defector” or the incredible music composed for “The Best of Both Worlds”? Neither episode deserved to be overlooked.

Neither the music selected for “Deep Space Nine” or “Voyager” bothered me because by that time, the music permitted to be composed for Star Trek series’ had become very bland and forgettable.

The music from “The Visitor” being the exception as that episode featured heartbreaking

music, which is on this soundtrack.

I also really, really enjoyed the orchestra version of the music from “The Inner Light”.

It really is moving music that I will never grow tired of listening to.

I will not argue that this soundtrack has some enjoyable and touching music to listen to, and in some instances, does represent some of the Star Trek franchise’s finest music, but there are too many pieces of music that should be a part of this collection that are not for me to be overly satisfied with this soundtrack collection.
