Beast Wars - Bad Spark is, I think, about the darkest and most chilling episode of the entire series. In this episode, a stasis pod unlike any other is discovered and Optimus reveals what exactly was in it and what he was ordered to do with it. The Transformer that eventually emerges from the stasis pod is a bloodthirsty, sadistic destroyer and tormentor.

His introduction is handled very well. The stasis pod is discovered while an energon storm is raging.

      The

area is very gloomy and deep within the forest and mountains. It begins to hunt the survivors of the Maximals and Predicons groups that converged on the stasis pod but got separated by the storm.

The eerie music is injected with the story wonderfully as is the fear and trepidation conveyed by the characters. It is an episode is just handled excellently from start to finish.

The end is particularly dark and satisfying. Also in this episode, Blackarachnia and Silverbolt, for ...

      • the first time, really get to spend time together and take a serious interest in one another, even if neither openly admits it.

Hints do shine through though and this is something that will continue to develop for the remainder of this season and into next season and the next series. This episode also demonstrates that the Maximals are not as noble as they present themselves to be, hence the experimentation and creation of Protoform X.

        The flashback scene clearly shows

Optimus realizing what a terrible mistake the Maximals have made in creating such a being. This episode overall is most certainly one of the highlights of the series and the Beast Wars franchise in general and it is one that I watch more often than several of the other episodes.

It is just so good that it always has the same effect on me and no matter how many times I watch it, my enjoyment of it never drops. One of my absolute favorites!
