Beast Wars - Coming of the Fuzors, Part 2 is much more fast paced and action oriented than the first part, which mainly served to set up several storylines that would continue to build over the rest of the season and series. In this episode, the Predicons continue to outnumber and outgun the Maximals and succeed in pushing them back twice. The Predicons come very close to annihilating the Maximals in this episode and thus claiming victory in the war, however, the return of Optimus Primal turns everything around.

The project Rhinox undertook in the previous episode becomes clear now: he

began a search for Optimus’ spark. What I do not understand and is never explained in this episode is where Optimus obtains his new transmetal body.

He emerges from a stasis pod, and it may very well be the stasis pod that was discovered in the previous episode but turned out to be a protoform without a spark, yet that still does not explain where Optimus’ transmetal form came from. There are also a few errors in this episode.

Although the episode picks up where the last left off, this episode shows a couple Predicons joining the fight that had already ...

      • arrived earlier. The action in this episode is also not the best.

A lot of it is just the two sides shooting at each other. There is no hand to hand combat or one on one combat or dramatic shots, it is all very quick, and at times lazy, with the CGI animation not resembling missiles or energy shots, but just red or yellow lines.

There are also a couple of scenes where the animation seems to slow down, like there is too much happening and the computers cannot handle all of it. The episode, if anything seems rushed.

        The quality

definitely drops in this episode. I will say though that there are still some good camera shots that are impressive, such as the morning sun rising behind the advancing Predicons, Megatron plowing through rocks in flight mode as he chases Cheetor, Optimus emerging from the stasis pod, all of which has well-placed and mood-enhancing background music.

The dialogue is as enjoyable as ever. Still, compared to the sophistication, depth and quality of the first part and of some other episodes in the series, this episode definitely could have been handled better and come across as being more dramatically executed in style and substance.
