Beast Wars - Tangled Web features some great character conflict and action, too. In this episode, Blackarachnia, Tarantulas and Quickstrike are sent on a mission by Megatron.

That in itself is somewhat perplexing because at this point Megatron should realize that neither Blackarachnia nor Tarantulas can be trusted considering their past actions.

Nonetheless, the three are sent on a mission to secure a new post that the Predicons could use as like a supplemental base.

As work begins on the post, conflicts arise.

      Tarantulas and

Blackarachnia clash more than once, in part because Blackarachnia wants to know what Tarantulas is plotting and also in part because Tarantulas still has a telepathic link to Blackarachnia’s mind, so he is continuing to try and probe her thoughts.

Quickstrike is used and manipulated by Blackarachnia, which opens up a conflict between him and Tarantulas.

It is all very enjoyable to watch and Quickstrike is given more exposure than he was in his introductory and the following episode.

When Silverbolt, another newcomer who also ...

      • receives some additional exposure and development, and Rattrap, who serves up some comedy, attempt to stop the Predicons, a lengthy and well executed battle plays out that is far superior to what was seen in the previous episode.

I feel the fighting is more intense and meaningful because it is more personal and close-range rather than long range and lacking in individual character reactions as the battle rages on.

Although not much is technically accomplished in this episode - it does not contribute to this

season’s major story arcs - this episode does begin the start of something between Blackarachnia and Silverbolt, two characters that will eventually fall in love.

This episode is the first time they really interact and catch each other’s attention, even if it is very, very brief and fleeting.

This episode also continues to expand the rift that exists between Tarantulas and Blackarachnia, will will culminate in the next season with a very emotional and superbly scripted episode.

All in all, a moderately enjoyable although not so significant episode.
