  • They also had the most delicious marinated cucumber and celery heart salad
  • They featured all of the items found in your standard Chinese buffet, plus several items we particularly enjoyed
  • Standard items include vegetable lo mein, chow mein, fried rice, white rice (it's amazing how the Chinese can make rice that doesn't stick together, but is nice and fluffy)
  • My wife and I give this place a five star rating, being one of the best eating values in the area

My wife and I finished running errands and were looking for lunch at a Chinese buffet around 3 pm. We were in Woonsocket, RI, and were driving by the Empire Buffet. The sign and building are not at all fancy, but the prices were reasonable, and we decided to check it out. Don’t let the outside of the place fool you, it is very nice inside. There were quite a few people still eating, which is a good sign in mid-afternoon.

They served lunch until 3:45 pm, so we were able to get the lower price. In fact, the lunch, all you can eat buffet, is only $6, dinner is $9. The restaurant is very clean, the hostess was very polite. The servers took our drink order, which was water and hot tea.

I looked around the food area for lemon wedges for the

hot tea, but couldn’t find any. I asked one of the servers, and she politely brought a bowl of four lemon wedges to our table. My wife and I are both vegetarians, and finding a restaurant that serves good non-meat items can be hard to find. Therefore, this review will focus on the vegetarian items found in the restaurant.

The food was laid out on six buffet tables and an outside freezer featured eight types of ice cream with toppings. The salad and vegetables were all fresh and tasted very good. All of the standard salad ingredients were available. As a special treat, they served both green and black olives.

They also had the most delicious marinated cucumber and celery heart salad. They also featured about half a dozen different salad dressings and all the standard condiments. A plethora of hot items were there for both meat ...

      • eaters and vegetarians. They featured all of the items found in your standard Chinese buffet, plus several items we particularly enjoyed.

The french fries are light years better than your greasy fast food joints. There were delicious tater tots, which were not at all greasy. The buffet prepared a most exquisite cheese sauce served on broccoli, spinach and elbow macaroni (obviously, not all in the same pan). They also have a great tasting cheese tart, which is a whipped cheese inside a thin filo-type of dough.

They also have hot mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce, a rarity in most buffets. Standard items include vegetable lo mein, chow mein, fried rice, white rice (it’s amazing how the Chinese can make rice that doesn’t stick together, but is nice and fluffy). Of course, they have the standard items such as corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, garlic

bread, cheese pizza, mixed vegetables, egg rolls, spring rolls, and a lot of items I can’t remember now. They had a lot of beef, chicken, pork and seafood, along with chicken fingers, chicken wings, and many meat items.

One island contained all desserts, including chocolate, tapioca, and butterscotch pudding, chocolate, white and carrot cakes, several types of cookies, and brownies. In a separate freezer were eight types of ice cream, along with jimmies, nuts, chocolate sauce, and butterscotch sauce. There was also tasty apple pie, but it’s located amongst the heated entrees, so it’s harder to find. In terms of the restaurant itself, the place is kept very clean by servers continuously removing your used plates, and cleaning up the buffet tables and any spills.

The bathrooms are very clean and well-stocked. My wife and I give this place a five star rating, being one of the best eating values in the area.
