The second movie in the crossover film series once again pits Alien against Predator in a sequel that doesn’t deliver. It’s hardly surprising this film doesn’t set the screen alight; the original was hardly a classic, but it’s a shame this time round that aspect that didn’t quite work in the first movie weren’t rectified enough with this second outing.

One thing that does weigh up over the first movie

is that the setting has now switched to a more realistic, everyday location.

This is a welcome change, gone is the slightly ridiculous looking maze of pyramids from the first movie, and with the new locations the action feels slightly more real, as much as a science fiction movie can be of course.

The cast of characters are still the usual stock of stereotypes, but at least with this one ...

      • were granted a greater spectrum of people as opposed to the scientist and military types that dominated the first movie.

Like the first movie, we’re given a promising enough heroine that helps lead the cast, but one that isn’t quite realized and certainly doesn’t touch upon anything Sigourney Weaver did in her four outings as Ripley.

The writing isn’t particularly good, but there’s some effort to more specifically tie these

        “Vs.

” movies as precursors to the other Alien movies, which could be commendable, if only this film was any good in the first place and deserved to be tagged to the more superior Alien movies.

Ultimately, what we’re left with is a bearable science fiction monster movie that in my opinion proves a more interesting experience than its predecessor, but never matches up to even the weakest entries of the main film series’.
