Family Guy returns with the latest instalment in the Stewie and Brian centric “Road to. ” episodes, with mixed success. Usually, the “Road to…” episodes have always been great, especially the more recent ones.

Brian and Stewie are unmatchable combination and the writing is usually on top form. However, this one just doesn’t match up to those episodes that have gone before, certainly not in story.

The premise is simple, Stewie introduces Brian

to his universe hopping latest creation and the pair set about exploring various parallel worlds. First they travel to a futuristic, highly advanced world where religion was never created.

Later, they end up in a Disney inspired world and initially embrace it, before fleeing at a rather startling show of anti-Semitism. Later, we’re treated to a live action sequence as the pair hop into our universe.

It’s all entertaining enough, and the ...

      • jokes come quickly enough, but there’s nothing really at work beyond this quick succession of gags. It’s certainly watchable though; Seth MacFarlane continues to impress as he somehow manages to voice multiple characters and yet still emote such chemistry.

The musical moments are as usual top notch, and the various animations are particularly impressive here. Perhaps this episode would have worked better coming later in the season though.

        It’s certainly good, but

I can’t help but think it doesn’t quite work as an opener. Few of the other characters get much of a look in, and it doesn’t quite match up to the premieres of American Dad and even The Cleveland Show.

However, I’m sure this episode, like all the “Road to” episodes will last the test of time. There’s an enduring quality about these episodes and it’ll certainly grow on you the more you watch it.
