  • The top fortunately does not attract fingerprints, which is a good thing for me as I like touching my gadgets just about everywhere
  • Overall in look and feel, I think Sony did made their mark on this netbook
  • But in my opinion, I found it a disgrace that reading text on such a high resolution screen is quite troublesome at times, as the text appears really small
  • One thing I really regret about the Sony Vaio W is that it delivers just two USB ports, which I find insufficient as I use an external USB mouse during office use, which leaves me with just one free USB port to attach any external peripheral
  • The software will track your face even if you change your direction, and my favorite part of the software is that you can add some pretty cool effects like face-blurring, eye mask, wrap, etc. Overall, I feel that the Sony Vaio W is an amazing netbook

After it’s daring attempt with the Vaio P “Lifestyle PC”, Sony is using tried-and-tested netbook formula with this model. The Vaio W is a typical 10-inch netbook. It does maintain Sony’s signature of style-statement all over. I find the Vaio logo atop it’s glossy covering really attractive and a pleasure to look at. The top fortunately does not attract fingerprints, which is a good thing for me as I like touching my gadgets just about everywhere. Overall in look and feel, I think Sony did made their mark on this netbook. I find that people do notice this baby of mine wherever I carry it, so that’s another plus point of it. I find it fairly light at a weight of just 1.2 kg, and a slim form factor which allows

      me to carry it anywhere.

Opening the lid reveals the highly astonishing 10.1 inch display which bears above HD resolution. But in my opinion, I found it a disgrace that reading text on such a high resolution screen is quite troublesome at times, as the text appears really small. I find it necessary to use a higher dpi setting for the fonts. However, I loved watching 720p High-definition videos on the screen. The keyboard also gets the Sony treatment with it’s pebble-like, segregated styling. I personally found the keyboard a work of art. I find all the keys well-sized and really soft to type on, so mark my words that typing on this keyboard is no less than a pleasure. The touch pad is also adequately large, which gets much of a positive ...

      • praise from me.

My brother told me that as compared to other netbooks, this one comes with a slightly upgraded Intel Atom N280 processor as compared to the Intel Atom N270 processor found in other netbooks. I didn’t notice any huge difference, but it probably made a mark in my mind. The battery gave 3 hours of normal use, that is common media features and office work, while it lasted just about 2 hours when under heavy use like watching High-definition videos, Using Wi-Fi. One thing I really regret about the Sony Vaio W is that it delivers just two USB ports, which I find insufficient as I use an external USB mouse during office use, which leaves me with just one free USB port to attach any external peripheral. But looking at

the brighter side again, it’s webcam has a bundled software, which allows the webcam to detect faces. I cannot say whether this software will be of any practical use, but it definitely is a nifty addition. The software will track your face even if you change your direction, and my favorite part of the software is that you can add some pretty cool effects like face-blurring, eye mask, wrap, etc.

Overall, I feel that the Sony Vaio W is an amazing netbook. It has a sturdy feel, a lightweight body, and intelligent and stable inside. But the only thing to feel bad about is the price, which is INR 30,000/-. I find the price quite unreasonable and think that the netbook would be a definite recommendation if the price had been about 5,000 bucks cheaper.
