The forth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm gets rolling quickly. Larry and Cheryl’s tenth anniversary is fast approaching and they make mutual promises to each other as anniversary gifts. Cheryl is granted her wish of renewing their vows at a small ceremony and Larry brings Cheryl up on a promise pledged ten years prior. In a hilarious flashback sequence,

we see Cheryl promise Larry that as a tenth anniversary gift, she’ll let him have sex with another woman if he agrees to marry her. Larry is prepared to shrug the offer off, but an amused Cheryl instead keeps to her promise, challenging the hapless Larry to try his luck.

Meanwhile, a surprisingly well received karaoke performance by Larry ...

      • impresses Mel Brooks who offers him a leading role in a Broadway run of “The Producers” to which he quickly accepts.

This is a pretty strong episode; neatly setting up the season’s ongoing story arcs as well as bring some more independent laughs. I’m not a particular fan of the whole Producers story arc, but this introduction to it

is at least fresh and engaging enough. Cheryl and Larry get some great screen time together and Jeff is once again brought into play more with his manager roll that was more or less absent from the third season with the restaurant story arc, and returns that great working dynamic between the two.

A strong opener, to a hit and miss season.
