  • This sounded like it would be interesting, as well as inexpensive, so we decided to give this new place a try
  • I would highly recommend the ravioli and ceviche in particular, and the meatballs had a unique spice and had a pesto sauce
  • I greatly enjoyed this unique take on dining, and given that even after a reasonably priced but delicious wine, our meal came to only $50, this treat is extremely affordable
  • Taste Restaurant is a great restaurant, with delicious food, excellent customer service and affordable prices

Being on a budget means that I go out to eat much less, and when I do go out, I choose restaurants that offer good value for my dining dollar. I listen when friends and colleagues discuss places they have been to eat in order to determine which restaurants would be inexpensive without sacrificing quality and customer service. I heard two co-workers discussing a new restaurant that they had tried recently, called Taste Restaurant, in southwest Calgary, Alberta, and they were extremely complimentary. I asked about the prices, and they mentioned that the menu consists of a variety of

‘boards’ which are little plates or appetizer dishes, for a set price. This sounded like it would be interesting, as well as inexpensive, so we decided to give this new place a try.

The concept of boards intrigued me, and Taste lived up to my expectations. The restaurant itself is bright, clean and new. The menu is simple, with ‘boards’ called ‘five bucks,’ ‘ten bucks,’ ‘fifteen bucks,’ and a shared platter called ‘twenty bucks.’ The five buck board is a snack of almonds, olives and small pretzel bits. The ten buck board is beef tartare, ceviche, tomatoes with mozza, arugula,

      • and bruschetta. These first two boards are just like Spanish tapas. The fifteen bucks choice consists of meat balls, lamb riblets, ravioli and sausage, and the twenty bucks option offers a choice between cheese, fish or meat. We decided to order both the ten buck and the fifteen buck dinners. Our food came quickly, with the snack type items first, and it was a feast. I would highly recommend the ravioli and ceviche in particular, and the meatballs had a unique spice and had a pesto sauce. The food reminded me of dining in Spain, and being able to
try a variety of little dishes is a wonderful way to eat. I greatly enjoyed this unique take on dining, and given that even after a reasonably priced but delicious wine, our meal came to only $50, this treat is extremely affordable. Even thought the plates are small, the food is satisfying and filling, and extremely tasty, well-cooked and flavourful. I will be back to try more of these delightful dishes.

Taste Restaurant is a great restaurant, with delicious food, excellent customer service and affordable prices. The wine list also contains a good selection of affordable wine. I will be back.
