Artist: Beyonce Video: “Listen” (Version 1) Album: B-Day/”Dreamgirls” Soundtrack Label: Columbia/Sony Music Soundtrack Director: Diane Martel

“Listen” is a single and music video off of the soundtrack for the 2006 film “Dreamgirls”, it is also included on her second album titled “B-Day”. The song basically follows the subplot of her character

from the film, Deena Jones, who is struggling to claim her independence over her dominant and controlling husband as she sings. This first version (there’s two of them) of the music video to the song has Beyonce entering a performance hall decked out in street clothes as she starts singing.

      Beyonce ...

      • is then onstage performing, she appears dressed in costume as Deena Jones by the time the song’s bridge rolls around (she’s wearing a ghetto fabulous 1970s gown in other words). The rest of the music video showcases scenes and clips from the “Dreamgirls” film, mostly focusing on the relationship between
Deena Jones and Curtis. Oh and did I mention that one of the outfits that Beyonce dons in this video includes a t-shirt with Wonder Woman on it? Apparently, Beyonce had previously expressed interest in playing Wonder Woman on screen. Great, that’s just as pathetic as Puff Daddy’s interest in playing the first black James Bond.
