      Artist: Beyonce ft. Jay-Z Video: “Upgrade U” Album: B-Day Label: Columbia Director: Melina and Beyonce

      “Upgrade U” is the fourth single and music video (following “Deja Vu”, “Ring the Alarm”, and “Irreplaceable”) from Beyonce’s second album titled “B-Day”. Was this music video directed by Hype Williams? Oh wait, no, it was


      actually co-directed by Beyonce, Hype had no involvement whatsoever. I guess Beyonce is trying to become the female version of Puff Daddy by over-saturating the market by turning every darn song on her albums into music videos and throwing in as much glitz and glamour she can get her hands on.

      “Upgrade U” is basically about the overblown material garbage which Beyonce can ‘upgrade’ her man with. The music video for “Upgrade U” begins with Beyonce having early flashes of “If I Were A Boy” (this is probably where she got the idea from in the first place) by pretending to ...

      be Jay-Z, lip-synching his verses, and dressing like him during his raps. Other parts of the video, where Beyonce is herself, has her in a pool with a dark background, dancing with a bunch of thugs who are dressed up like doormen, living the life in the back seat of
      a fancy car, and then she’s seen swimming in a pool of jewelry, watches, bracelets, and so on. Before you know it, Jay-Z eventually does show up to do his last rap verse, he happens to be the only one here who is not in shiny suit mode (probably because it brings back too many memories of “Sunshine”).
