During my recent visit to Malaysia, we used the no frills, otherwise known as, community airline Firefly for flying from Penang to Kuala Lumpur. We booked the ticket on line from India. The process was relatively simple and we got the E- Tickets immediately. However the position of prices was changing quite fast. Sooner we book the tickets, cheaper the tickets are.

After reaching Penang, on the day of our departure from Penang, we went to the Airport and checked in. The flight was

on time. We were lucky to fly in their brand new 72 seater aircraft ATR 72-500. The booking staff was polite. The gates were opened ten minutes before the time of departure and boarding was quick. The seats were narrow, but comfortable. The only air hostess on the flight was quite polite. Flight started on time. A snack was offered free during the flight. The aircraft was flying very low compared to regular air crafts. We reached the destination 10 minutes prior to our ...

      • scheduled arrival. The trip was quite enjoyable.

The price was not pricy. It costed us 128 ringetts per person, as against 36 ringetts by bus and about 250 ringetts by regular airlines. The bus would have taken 6 hours unlike one hour journey by air. The other advantage is the low cost air lines land at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCTT) in Subhang, Kuala Lumpur. This airport is closer to the city by about 20 kms as compared to the Kuala Lumpur International

Airport (KLIA). There are regular taxis available from this place to the city. As we can get the pre-paid tickets from the Airport itself, one need not be afraid of cheating by taxi drivers. The taxi cost us 38 ringetts to our Hotel in the Bukit Bintang area.

One can also exchange the dollars at the airport. One interesting feature for Indian travelers is that one can exchange their rupees also into ringetts at this place.

The experience of flying by Firefly was quite satisfactory.
