  • The best experience is to shut off all the lights or go on a midnight drive with this music
  • There are hardly any riffs on this album, the guitars objective is to heighten the sonic experience, not command it
  • The emphasis is on the drums, the DJ work and the vocals, which are all amazing

Team Sleep is music evolved. Melding guitars and drums with turntables, computers and keyboards, they depict a post appocalyptic future painted in an Eon Blue haze. Eletricity runs through this music in a way that is completely original and unique. This album literally sounds like the soundtrack to a sprawling futuristic urban setting.

Upon listening to the songs featured on Team Sleep’s first album, you sense the future. And it’s not just the eletronic devices they use to enhance their songs, its much more than that. It’s a vision they provide the listener, one that co-exists with Science Fiction and visions of

      the future.

Its almost as if behind the delayed and distorted drums, behind the ambient sounds and atmospheric structures, there exists a post-appocalyptic world, thriving and breathing. Sure, Team Sleep employs traditional instruments such as drums and guitar and bass. But they are subjected to enough effects that they seem “alien”, yet fit in with the turntables and the Pro-Tools computer programming.

The sound is trascendental, sedative and out-of-this world. Each song connects to the next as if the album was concieved as one, cohesive whole. The best experience is to shut off all the lights or go on a midnight drive with this music.

The music is ambient heavy, guitaras play the background. There are hardly any riffs on this album, the guitars objective is to heighten the sonic experience, not command it. There are some really nice guitar riffs to be found on this album, but they are very light, soft and chilled out.

The emphasis is on the drums, the DJ work and the vocals, which are all amazing. Team Sleep consists of Chino Moreno(of Deftones fame), Mary Timony(of Helium fame), Rob Crow(Pinback fame), DJ Crook, and Zach Hill of Hella, with Ross Robinson and Terry Date on production. All involved ...

in Team Sleep have music coarsing through their veins, and it shows on this album.

They have created an art-house masterpiece that is more sonic experience than just “music”. Most notably, Chino Moreno, front man for the post-appocalyptic band Deftones, really shines on this album. Showing the world that he is much more than just an insipid screaming cry baby, he croons out beautiful lyrics.

From the Neo-futuristic Ataxaria to the soothing Edgar Allen Poe poem Tomb of Liegia, this album breathes with life and an ambience that is only heard in ecclectic eletronic music. There are even DJ only tracks that

sound more like experiments in sound, “Delorian”, “Staring at the queen” . A few “normal” sounding rock tracks can be found, “Your skull is red”, “blvd nights” and “Since WWI” .

“Elizabeth” plays like an alternative rock song that fell into the eletronic pool of thought. “Ataraxia”, “Ever(forgien Flag)”, “Princton Review”, “A ride to the rectory”, “Tomb of Liegia” and “King Diamond” all feature a sound that is quite unique, and definatly NOT rock, but a trip-hop sound. “Live from the stage” could be considered the only song with a really “heavy” section to it.

Team Sleep is THE music of the future. If your into futuristic pot-appocalyptic Neo-music, then Team Sleep is highly recommended.
