  • The novelization does try to provide the Son'a with some depth by allowing the reader to delve into the minds of some of them, but the flaws reside more in the fact that their back story and motives just are not interesting or make all that sense, so even if I do better understand the characters and like them a little more, it really does nothing for the story

Star Trek: Insurrection Novelization, much like the movie itself, is a story that flows fairly slowly. There is some action near the beginning of the novelization, as well as near the end, but for the most part, this novelization is about the characters and how the area of space they are in is affecting them.

Picard begins to develop a love interest with one of the Baku

woman, Worf enters a stage of increased aggression, Riker and Troi re-ignite a flame that has been burning relatively softly, and more.

As a “fountain of youth” type of story, this novelization, like the movie, does not do much with the story and instead sort of just lets the story flow without any real surprises.

The Son’a really are dull adversaries that do not pose much of ...

      • a threat at any point in the story.

a little more, it really does nothing for the story.

There are more instances in the novelization of the characters feeling young than in the movie and thus there is some additional comedy here and there along with some light romance.

All in all though, the novelization can ultimately prove to be dull at times and I really feel it is only interesting if you are someone that enjoyed the movie.
