  • I'm envious of people who have those lovely golden tans and, as such, I think I might sometimes conveniently forget to apply sunblock when I'm outside for the day, subconsicously hoping I'll go home with this gorgeous tan that others will be envious of ME for
  • I found that I got a lot of relief from it and it lasted a long time
  • Since I like to use it as an everyday lotion, but I also enjoy my girly smelly lotions, I think combining the two together would make for a better product in the end

I have ridiculously pale skin. And I don’t mean that I’m just pale. I mean that, on certain days, I might look positively corpse-like, and I’m just not sure how long I can keep telling myself that “pale is in this season”. I’ve tried tanning beds and sun tanning in general, and I always end up with an excrutiating burn which lasts for days on end, only to wind up exactly as pale as I began with. I’m envious of people who have those lovely golden tans and, as such, I think I might sometimes “conveniently forget” to apply sunblock when I’m outside for the day, subconsicously hoping I’ll go home with this gorgeous tan that others will be envious of ME for. Never gonna happen. I know this. Really I do. And for the past few years, I’ve taken great strides to protect myself against sun damage now that I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll just never tan. I’ll apply an SPF 50, head out for fifteen

minutes of direct sunlight and still, somehow, I’ll end up with a burn, even if slight.

It was one of those times that lead me to the Fruit of the Earth aloe vera product. We’ve all been raised (well, most of us anyway) to believe that aloe vera is the be-all end-all to sunburn treatments. My mother used to have a plant in our kitchen and she’d break open a leaf and use the juices straight from the source and, as children, we’d all ooh and ahh and think she’s the reincarnation of mother earth with her mystical healing powers. As an adult, we obviously recognize there’s a much more reasonable science at work. And, as I grew up, I also realized that the aloe vera just didn’t work for me the way it used to when I was a child. Perhaps that’s because it’s not administered with a mother’s loving touch. Perhaps it’s because skin can change over the years due to your treatment of it. Regardless, I was ...

      • still hopefully that Fruit of the Earth aloe vera gel would work.

It’s 100% aloe with nothing added in and no alcohol to dry the skin out. And the main thing that had me giving it a shot was that it had claims it could be used for a multitude of things from sunburn treatment, anti-itch lotion and even blemish control. I’m still not sure how it works on blemishes as I’m hesitant to try a lotion on my face because lotions in general are just too heavy and might not mesh well with my already oily skin. But, Fruit of the Earth is actually really nice and feels more like a liquid going on than a lotion. It dries quickly but doesn’t leave you feeling dry afterwards.

As for after-sun treatment, I’m not sure it really hastened the healing process. This burn didn’t heal and faster than it otherwise would have if I’d just left it alone, but the gel did help to soothe the burn itself and give me

a bit of a reprieve. It’s not long lasting, though, in that regard which was a bit of a disappointment. I had to reapply the gel every hour or so to find any constant relief from the discomfort. But, I did keep it around and used it when the winter season hit (and here in Michigan, winter lasts half the year), when my dry skin is particularly painful and itchy. And, surprisingly, it did really well as an over-all anti-itch gel. I found that I got a lot of relief from it and it lasted a long time.

I wish they would add some sort of scent to the proudct. Nothing strong or floral, but just a nice fresh and springy type of smell to accomodate the uses of this lotion. Since I like to use it as an everyday lotion, but I also enjoy my girly smelly lotions, I think combining the two together would make for a better product in the end. But still, a very good product with lots of perks.
