  • On a recent road trip through BC’s interior, I found it necessary to stop in the very small town of Salmon Arm for dinner before continuing on my trip
  • There were only a few choices right on the highway, so I decided on Kentucky Fried Chicken
  • We got our order and I noticed right away that the chicken was so greasy that it actually soaked the box and the paper bag it was in
  • To pay $6 for two pieces of greasy chicken and sub-standard sides was disappointing, and even the coating of the chicken, which I have always enjoyed, was tasteless

On a recent road trip through BC’s interior, I found it necessary to stop in the very small town of Salmon Arm for dinner before continuing on my trip. There were only a few choices right on the highway, so I decided on Kentucky Fried Chicken. I was not expecting much for such a small town, and it lived down to my expectations.

The very small restaurant has exactly two small, two-chair tables inside, so I suppose this is mostly a take-out restaurant. The choices seemed adequate, which sandwiches, family buckets, single-person combinations as

well as nuggets, ‘bowls’ and wings. The prices are the same as other locations of the chain, fairly reasonable. This night, there was one counter person and one person in the tiny kitchen, and there was a lineup. When we finally got to place our order, they were out of the extra-crispy chicken. Everyone in the lineup was trying to order it and couldn’t. Obviously, someone didn’t order enough. Anyway, we chose a 2-piece chicken meal with 2 sides each and waited about 10 more minutes for our order. As we wanted to ...

      • eat out of our vehicle, we sat at one of the tiny tables. We got our order and I noticed right away that the chicken was so greasy that it actually soaked the box and the paper bag it was in. The chicken tasted greasy and not very appetizing, not salty and tasty like I remember, and the meat inside was also greasy; I remember KFC chicken as being moist without being oily at all, but that is not the case now. The coleslaw was slimy and the potato salad had a sauce
that was thin and runny. Overall, I was unimpressed. To pay $6 for two pieces of greasy chicken and sub-standard sides was disappointing, and even the coating of the chicken, which I have always enjoyed, was tasteless.

KFC in Salmon Arm is conveniently located right on the Trans Canada Highway, but the food is less than desirable and there is nowhere to sit inside the restaurant. Even on a weeknight, there was a lineup. I would skip it and go to one of the other fast food restaurants along the highway in this town.
