Artist: Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, and Sharon Leal Video: “One Night Only” Album: “Dreamgirls” - Music from the Motion Picture Label: Music World/Columbia

“One Night Only” is a single and music video from the official soundtrack of the 2006 film “Dreamgirls” starring Beyonce Knowles (how fitting is that?). The

song combines a 70’s funk, disco, and tech-no sound to it that is unlike anything Beyonce (nor Sasha Fierce) has ever done, so it doesn’t sound like a song from her.

“Dreamgirls” is the theme here and that is what is carried and represented all throughout the entire music video.

      • Beyonce (along with Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, and Sharon Leal) perform on sets inspired by the “Dreamgirls” film intercut by actual performance clips from the movie. Beyonce and her female counterparts are often changing through costume after costume and make-up after make-up throughout the music video.

        The end result is

seamless editorial confusion as you can’t tell which scene is which sometimes, but what difference does it matter? It all looks alike, now doesn’t it? Overall, this is an easily forgettable song and music video to a very unnecessary film. Oh wait, was “Dreamgirls” actually a film? I always thought of that as a Beyonce vehicle.
