  • Because the canned drinks were so expensive, I decided to invest in the Slim Fast Optima powdered drink mix
  • I'm sure you'd agree with me if you are a chocolate lover too
  • I noticed almost immediately that, even using a blender, the powder just doesn't dissolve all the way
  • But, I have to say that using the drink mix was a nice way to kick-start the diet because it was convenient, didn't taste bad at all with the ice, and was effective enough that first week or two to give my confidence a boost and let me know I could do the rest on my own
  • It's affordable and lasts the week, two shakes a day, and is more than half the cost of the ready-to-use cans, and I think, a little more filling than the canned shakes as well

A while back, I had a bet with my mother-in-law and one of her teacher friends that basically ended up with all of us on a diet (or, in my case, a serious life change), and whoever lost the most weight by the end of a three or four month period, would win all the money that was put in the pot, which was $50 from each of us. Now, it takes a lot to get me motivated where exercise and diet is concerned, but you put money on the line and the game is on! My first trek was to the grocery store to invest in some Slim Fast products, because I had long been a fan of their breakfast bars to curb my chocolate cravings. Because the canned drinks were so expensive, I decided to invest in the Slim Fast Optima powdered drink mix. I figured, the flavor was Chocolate Royale, and what could possibly be wrong with

anything chocolate flavored? I’m sure you’d agree with me if you are a chocolate lover too.

So, I get it home, follow all the suggestions about meals and exercise, and tried the shake in various ways. First, I tried it by adding the recommended amount of milk to the mix. I noticed almost immediately that, even using a blender, the powder just doesn’t dissolve all the way. No matter how much stirring or blending you do, there was always clumps of powder in my glass, and it just wasn’t appetizing to be drinking a liquid but suddenly get a clump of, remarkabley, DRY powder in your mouth. Strange is one way of putting it, but I could also say it was just gross and completely unexpected.

Next I tried making a smoothly out of it and adding ice to the blender. Because the ice added a texture of its own, the powder left behind wasn’t nearly as noticeable, and the drink ...

      • was actually pleasurable after that. Even my teenage son took a sip and thought it was just a chocolate shake and never knew it was a diet drink. I wont ever buy it again and drink it with plain milk, but the addition of ice made all the difference in the world.

It’s supposed to help curb hunger for four hours, but honestly, even following the meal and snack guidelines that came with the drink, it just didn’t do anything for repressing the appetite. I was hungry while I was drinking it, immediately after drinking it, and all the way to my next meal! But, I stuck to my guns and found willpower I didn’t even know I had, and ended up winning the bet and ultimately losing 50 pounds. Now, I didn’t use the shake mix the whole time. You are supposed to use it seven days, then take three days off, eating regularly, and on and on. But after

about a month of this, the shake started losing its effectiveness and after the initial 8 lb loss, the rest of the weight I lost was purely watching what I ate and exercising. But, I have to say that using the drink mix was a nice way to kick-start the diet because it was convenient, didn’t taste bad at all with the ice, and was effective enough that first week or two to give my confidence a boost and let me know I could do the rest on my own. I definitely recommend this shake mix. It’s affordable and lasts the week, two shakes a day, and is more than half the cost of the ready-to-use cans, and I think, a little more filling than the canned shakes as well. It may not have curbed the appetite, but it does have nutrients and features that helped facilitate weight loss. A great product to use when starting a new life change or diet plan.
