  • I have this particular friend who, any time you mention a medical problem, somehow magically has this all-natural remedy for it
  • Not only did I NOT get tired, but I think the actual opposite happened and I started feeling a little jittery and even had a problem with the shakes for the first hour after taking it
  • Then, my hearbeat increased dramatically, almost to the point that it was worrisome, and my husband noticed that I was breathing irregularly and heavily
  • In the end, this product didn't work at all for me, and actually made me feel bad, physically, but she still swears up and down that it's the best thing next to sliced bread

I have this particular friend who, any time you mention a medical problem, somehow magically has this all-natural remedy for it. She’s a big proponent of using natural products to treat manageable conditions, such as headaches and sleeplessness, and she’s got books on natural healing remedies in droves around her house. Sometimes, I have to admit, this can be a little annoying, because any time you mention a physical ailment or problem, she’s immediately recommending valerian root from GNC. She’s always had allergies to so many things it’s almost ridiculous, and has to watch every bit of food she eats, and food products she buys from a store has to be carefully checked for ingredients that wont sit well

with her, and sometimes I’ve wondered if she isn’t just a wee bit of a hypochondriac, because she’s constantly claiming to have some new problem or condition that she’s treating with all natural methods and remedies.

I made the mistake of mentioning around her that I was having a lot of problems sleeping, which I’ve always had problems with since I was a young teenager. She, of course, immediately recommended the valerian root because it’s used predominantly for its sedative like effects. Because I didn’t have a GNC nearby, she let me have a few of her tablets and told me to follow the directions carefully and only take one, and don’t take it with any alcohol at all,

no other sleep aides, and to take it right before I want to go to bed, because it will knock me out fast.

Now, I have a VERY high tolerance for prescription and over-the-counter medications, and I usually have to take twice the recommended dosage of things in order to feel any of the drugs effects at all. But I stuck to her guidelines and only took one valerian. And, I’m not sure if I was having an allergic reaction or not, but I was not at all happy with the way this all natural herb-in-a-pill affected me. Not only did I NOT get tired, but I think the actual opposite happened and I started feeling a little jittery ...

and even had a problem with the shakes for the first hour after taking it. Then, my hearbeat increased dramatically, almost to the point that it was worrisome, and my husband noticed that I was breathing irregularly and heavily. Still, i wasn’t sleepy in the least.

After about three hours of these seriously negative reactions to only one valerian tablet, I finally started to feel drowzy and the other problems seemed to start falling away. But I think my weariness was strictly because my reaction to the valerian was so intense that my body was just plain tired afterwards, and it had nothing to do with the sedative effects of this herb at all.

      Needless to say, the next

day when she called to ask how it worked, I very adamantly, but nicely, suggested she not try to press this on everyone she meets and talks to (because she does), since some people are going to have reactions to it much like I did, and they were really very scary reactions. She apologized, but it was my own fault for taking it to begin with, because I really wasn’t sure about it since so many other products haven’t helped with my sleeping problems anyway. In the end, this product didn’t work at all for me, and actually made me feel bad, physically, but she still swears up and down that it’s the best thing next to sliced bread.
