Before this episode, I used to wonder if rape victims truly ever forgive their rapists and found it hard to believe that some of them actually do. However, the Law and Order: Special Victims Unit episode “Limitations” shed new light on it and one of the possible negativities of having a rape victim forgive their rapist and “let go” of the crime.

I never thought before that such a thing which might just help the victim might actually help compromise the case if it is still open.

This is evident in the plot of this

episode which is basically about the detectives of the Special Victims Unit who are told to hurry and solve a case of a man who raped three women years ago before the law causes the case to expire.

Thus, the detectives find themselves going through old paperwork again and working late to try and solve that rape case which seemed to have left the previous detectives cold.

They also soon find out that one or two of the previous detectives who worked the case had made several mistakes while dealing with the victims and the ...

      • perpetrator which was one of the reasons which caused the case to go cold.

The detectives soon realise that one of the victims had found out the identity of the rapist, but yet still has forgiven him and put the crime behind her so she refuses to disclose his identity in order to protect him.

Thus, no matter how much the detectives press her to she won’t.

They end up getting the other women to try to convince her and when they do find the rapist; they realise why she might have been protecting him

        in the first place.

First of all, because he had joined a church and appologised to her and secondly because he was now almost completely paralysed.

I thought this episode was not only well thought out and well written, but I also thought that it was well acted.

I can remember there were one or two familiar faces in there as well for some of the characters but I fail to recally where I had seen them.

I would recommend this episode to those who like Law and Order Special Victims Unit and crime drama movies and series.
